A demonstration of Warhol’s brief experimentation with still life, the artist first placed one or more pieces of fruit against a white background and cast harsh light upon them to create exaggerated shadows and light-based contrast. He would then use collage and drawing to create the source imagery for the additional screens used in each print. As each color in these works represents a different silkscreened layer, this printing process allowed Warhol to entertain endless color combinations within each composition.
