NICK VUKMANOVICH

Nick Vukmanovich’s pop icons showcase the bright colors of hidden emotions and agendas in a variety of faces and figures. In his efforts to redefine portraiture, Vukmanovich challenges our own definition of beauty – by visualizing humanity as part of appearance rather than something independent of it.

Vukmanovich’s work is highly prized among European collectors. While American collectors have shown a tendency to associate his acrylics and color with the “Warhol” school of art, overseas collectors have found similarities with the work of Jean Dubuffet’s “art brut” as well as subtle reminders of the German Expressionism School.

It is essential to look at Vukmanovich’s portraits as deeply psychological, the artist’s term is “psycho social.” They are not so much portraits of individuals but rather portraits of the mental states through which the subjects of his painting pass.
